I had loads of fun last weekend. I was a model in a fashion show my mother in law put on for charity. I was actually dreading it. But I had fun with it and enjoyed myself.
Now you may think that this would give me that little bit of a sassy, city-chic feel, all dressed up in the top fashions, strutting my stuff on the runway - something I haven't done in 25+ years I might add. But no, not quite, at least not in the beginning. Here's why:
The event was held at a predominantly seniors RV Park. The audience was to be 100 predominantly senior women. So a week before the show I had to go and find some outfits to wear. The fashions had to be from a store that I have never shopped in and typically sell styles that cater more to an older clientele - predominantly seniors. They also have the unfortunately luck of being in a mall that is down on it's luck. The good news - we were allowed to choose our own outfits! (read more by clicking on the blue "read more" link.)
I quickly passed by the elasticized jeans and the gaudy polyester lounge suit and got to work. After an hour of trying on clothes and entertaining a 6 year old at the same time, I came out of the store feeling relieved although a tad stressed. I had 4 outfits that I thought would work. I then headed to the next store where I was to meet up with the manager who would accessorize my outfits. My joy at having actually found something to wear was quickly abated by said manager who was pretty disgusted with my choices (I didn't have a lot to work with, jeesh!). In the end she managed to work wonders with her accessories. She even gave me a jacket and fun boot cuffs to wear as an additional outfit which turned out to be my favourite and actually did make me feel just a little bit city-chic!
Check it out!
So despite the average age of this fashion show audience being around 70; the kitchen being heard to say "only one tiny triangle of a sandwich per person please! We are going to run out!" and the lady who was there to do our eye makeup telling me "I'm here to do your eye makeup but I can't help but noticing you need some help with your skin." it all went well and for at least 5 minutes I put all that aside and did feel a glimmer of sassy, city-chic!
